The details that make our stoneware one-of-a-kind
Island Stoneware has been crafting pottery since 2007 and we’re one of a few production pottery businesses in Canada who still use a traditional pottery wheel and slab construction. The magic of a spinning wheel, the gentle coaxing of the clay by our experienced potters, and the rigorous finishing that’s applied to every piece are a few of the details that make Island Stoneware one-of-a-kind.
Design and craftmanship
We believe thoughtful design and meticulous construction are the difference between pottery you use every day and pottery that sits on a shelf collecting dust. We hand-craft our stoneware to be durable and used every day in the microwave, heated in the oven, placed on your table, and cleaned in your dishwasher. It means careful consideration for how you’ll use each piece, how it feels in your hand and how it will look on your table. We’re proud of our timeless vibrant glaze palette and island inspired styles that allow customers to add to add or change up their collections years after their first purchase.
Proudly made in Canada
We craft our pottery onsite in our Summerside, PEI studio where 46% of our electrical power comes from renewable energy. Our clay is a special mix that contains less pottery grog than traditional clay combinations. The result is a softer product that’s easy to work with, gentle on our potters’ hands and still durable when fired. Our red clay contains iron oxide which mimics the sand beaches unique to our province. It contains ingredients sourced from six U.S. states and two Canadian provinces and is blended in Ontario before being shipped to us in PEI.
